Design Tips
- Mix & Match Prints: Try floral napkins for a cottagecore vibe, tropical patterns for beach parties, or blue chinoiserie for an old-money aesthetic.
- Use White Shells for Contrast: The brighter the shell base, the more vibrant your napkin design will appear.
- Don’t Overbrush: Too much Mod Podge can cause napkins to wrinkle or tear. Keep your layers light and delicate.
- Try Layering Designs: Combine a background wash of color or a solid base napkin with a focal design napkin on top.
Seashell Decoupage Art Supplies :
- Mod Podge Clear
- Paint brush
- Seashells
- Decorative napkin
- Scissors
- Permanent gold marker or gilded gold paint
Step 1: Prep Your Seashells
First you need to clean your seashells to make sure all the debris is cleaned off and let them fully dry. If your seashell has brown spots on it, you can paint it white with acrylic paint.

Step 2: Choose and Cut Your Napkin
Next, you’ll unfold the napkin and cut out one of the small squares along the crease. Then lay it on the inside of the seashell and cut around the outside so that there is just a small amount of napkin hanging over the edge.

Step 3: Apply Mod Podge
Next, dip your paint brush into your Mod Podge and paint a thin layer on the inside of the shell. Make sure to also get the outside edges of the seashell. Don’t overdo it or the texture will become too tacky.

Step 4:
Then lay your napkin on top of the inside of your shell and hold it down in the center. Gradually go from the center to the outside edges. Lightly press the napkin down so that it is smooth without any air pockets. It’s okay if some of napkin tears away from the edge, we will be painting over it so those parts won’t show.

Step 6: Sealant Topcoat and Gold Edges
Then go over it again with the Mod Podge clear sealant, making sure to get all the edges. Once that is dry you can paint the edges gold or use a gold permanent marker.
